Tableau Visionary 2026

2026-03-20 by Johan de Groot

I’m incredibly excited to share that I’ve been selected as a 2026 Tableau Visionary.

While the title is a huge personal milestone, the real momentum doesn’t come from the individual recognition – it’s the company I’m keeping. There is something incredibly humbling about being placed in the same league as this cohort.

What is a “Tableau Visionary”?

Becoming a Visionary starts with a nomination from the community and ends with selection by Tableau based on sustained contribution and engagement.

Being selected as a Tableau Visionary is, first and foremost, a recognition of the work I’ve been doing, both in terms of building solutions and collaborating with others in the Tableau community.
At the same time, it means being surrounded by people who enjoy untangling messy data problems and openly sharing how they do it.

I get to be part of a group of about 40 people in the Tableau Community (#DataFam) who keep experimenting, pushing boundaries, and helping others do the same. It’s that mix of individual contribution and strong collaboration that makes this group what it is.

In the words of Tableau:

These community leaders push the boundaries of mastery, teaching, and collaboration in the DataFam. They aren’t just experts; they are the architects of the future of analytics.

Demonstrate Mastery

Show a deep understanding of how Tableau works. Develop innovative, effective new ways to use Tableau.

Teach in the Community

Help others be better Tableau users. Provide correct and clear answers to questions. Serve as Tableau evangelists and share our mission.

Collaborate With Others

Share tips and tricks that even our brightest developers hadn’t considered. Offer support to people of all skill levels.

Being put these qualifications on my name makes me blush 😉

Tableau Ambassador & Tableau Community

I’ve been a Tableau Ambassador for the past five years, and it’s been an incredible experience. While Ambassadors and Visionaries are different – Ambassadors often focus on specific areas like the Forum, Tableau Public, or supporting newcomers, and Visionaries are recognized for their broader contributions – the Ambassador program has given me a chance to connect, share, and contribute in meaningful ways. Ambassadors and Visionaries are not exclusive from each other – I am now both!

Being part of the Tableau community for about 20 years (!) now has been fantastic, and I genuinely believe it’s one of the most engaging communities in this field. Titles like Ambassador or Visionary are nice forms of recognition, but you don’t need one to learn, share, or contribute. That said, being part of a closely connected group of like-minded people, and having a closer connection to Tableau/Salesforce, is a great bonus. It’s inspiring, motivating, and opens doors to collaborate in ways that are harder to achieve on your own.

To the other Visionaries:

A big thank you and congratulations to the other Visionaries in this year’s cohort. It’s an inspiring group of people who continuously push the boundaries of what’s possible with data.

I’m genuinely looking forward to learning from you, exchanging ideas, inspiring each other and contributing where I can.

I especially value the way we challenge and support each other – recognizing good work while also keeping each other sharp.
